Frequently Asked Questions
Why are your One-Way Routes allowing me more days than I need?
Our objective is to provide our one-way customers with enough time to load, travel and unload your move safely. Rather than charging per day, which puts you under pressure to get to your destination and return the trailer as soon as possible, we have gone the other way. This leaves you far more relaxed and you do not have to rush your move. We have started this concept and our opposition are now catching on.
Do I get discount if I return the trailer sooner?
For the reasons mentioned above, we do not offer discounts for early returns. However, you are encouraged to return your trailer when you’re done. Doing so will eliminate any risks and liabilities you might have regarding the trailer.
Can I extend my return date?
Yes. On Local as well as One-Way rentals, you can extend your return date subject to the following conditions: You must advise the receiving branch, well before the return date stipulated, of your intention to extend. Failure to do this will result in penalties being charged and a criminal case being opened for theft.
What criteria must I comply with to rent a trailer from Olifants?
You need to be 21 years or older as you will have to sign a legal document. Present a valid un-endorsed driver’s license, ID and proof of residence (current municipal account, Telkom, etc.).
Have made payment in full and provide prove thereof, or have the means to pay for the full rental charge plus refundable deposit. We accept most cards, cash and EFT payments.
Have a roadworthy towing vehicle.
Can I rent on behalf of some-one else?
No. The person signing the rental agreement will be responsible, liable and accountable for the duration that the trailer is out of Olifants property. If you are renting on behalf of a company, the company must provide you with a letter (duly signed on a company letterhead) giving you the authority to rent on their behalf.
What do I do if I have a break-down or accident?
In case of an accident, attend to life threatening situations first. Then report the accident to the Police, then to the receiving branch of Olifants Trailer Rentals. If the trailer is damaged or has a break-down, you should contact your insurance first. Olifants Trailer Rentals maintain and service our trailers regularly and does thorough checks when receiving and dispatching trailers.
If a trailer is not overloaded or damaged, it should not break down during your trip.
Are Your Trailers Insured?
No. Unfortunately no Insurance Company is keen to insure trailers that are rented out to third-parties. Therefore, you are 100% responsible, liable and accountable for any damage to or loss of a trailer. You can however, arrange for insurance of the trailer from your private insurance company – but this has to be done beforehand.
We also do offer an optional third-party insurance, which covers any damage to third party property.
Where do I drop the trailer off?
At the dispatch branch, they will inform you of the address as well as contact details of the receiving branch. In addition, you will receive documents in which all branch details will appear.
Why are trailers being checked in and out? It wastes time?
It is a company policy to check in and check out trailers. This gives you, the customer peace of mind that your trailer is in good, roadworthy condition. This also indicates in what condition the trailer is when collecting, to eliminate any arguments about the condition once you return the trailer. Should you find anything wrong with the trailer (as soon as you have left the branch), return it immediately for further investigation.
Why are you so friendly?
Because we like customers that still appreciate old principles, norms and values. There is nothing more satisfying than to see happy customers.
